My First Ever ColourPop Haul & Review!

Hello friends!

I think I may be the very last cruelty free makeup junkie to try ColourPop. I’m not sure why I had such a total lack of awareness because lots of bloggers I follow rave about ColourPop all the time (as they should). I was so out of the loop, I didn’t even realize how freaking affordable the brand is, I mean almost everything below $10?? WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG???

In case you, like me, were one of the few holdouts, ColourPop is a cruelty free, mostly vegan online makeup company. It was easier for them to list the items that were not vegan under their FAQ section than to list the vegan options.

Since everything is so affordable, I decided to jump way the heck outside my comfort zone and try some darker lip colors, including two of the newer shades of the Ultra Mattes.

Prepare yourself for the Super Serious Lip Swatch Photos.

Let’s get started!

Okay, I just want to say for the record that I LOATHE the word “Lippie” I know a lot of people have a problem with the word moist, well lippie is my moist. Why would I order items with a word I despise in the name? I wanted to see if they were as awesome as everyone claimed. Spoiler Alert: THEY ARE INDEED AWESOME!!

I saw a review on YouTube stating that the Lippie Pencils (lip liners) were so soft that they could be used on their own without lipstick. Since that was all the rage back when I was a teenager (I graduated HS in 1997, yes I am an old), I decided to order two Pencils without ordering the Lippie Stix (lipstick) of the same colour.

I ordered Lumiere ($5) which is the color from a collaboration ColourPop did with YouTuber KathleenLights. Lumiere is described as a dusty mauve pink. I don’t generally go for mauves as anything that is too nude and/or brown tend to make me look like I am sick, but I was pleasantly surprised by Lumiere.

The other pencil only color I ordered was Contempo ($5) Contempo is described as a mid tone dusty rose. Contempo is definitely more in my neutral pink comfort zone.

My final verdict on the Lippie Pencils? The above pictures are just the pencils. I don’t have any balm under or over the color. They truly are super soft and easy to apply. They are so soft they dull pretty quickly so I would recommend stashing a lip pencil sharpener in your purse/makeup bag, because you will need it if you use these daily. I experienced no drying and will absolutely be buying more of these.

The other lippie pencils I bought, I also bought the Matte Lippie Stix that goes with it. Also, from here on out these colors are WAY out of the norm for me 🙂

LBB ($5 each) LBB was a collab with blogger LittleBlackBoots LBB is described as a rich plum wine.

Next up is Dazed this is described as a berry red. RED! I have always been intimidated by reds, so I went way out on a limb but I was a little comforted by the berry description.

My thoughts on the Matte Lippie (ugh that word! shudder) Stix are that they are pretty easy to apply and I didn’t find them drying. I enjoyed getting to try out these darker shades and I’m slowly getting used to dark matte shades. I will be trying more of the Matte shades. I will say that I really don’t think you need to order the pencil and lipstick in the same shade because either one is more than enough to give totally opaque comfortable coverage.

Let’s move on to the Ultra Mattes!

I ordered the shades Bad Habit described as a dusty mauve pink and More Better described as a deep violet wine. ($6 each). These come in a typical lip gloss/doe foot applicator, but these are no lip gloss my friends. These are matte liquid lipsticks. They also take a little bit of work. You will need to make sure you exfoliate your lips and preferably apply a lip balm while you are working on the rest of your makeup. Once you are ready to apply the ultra mattes make sure you blot the lip balm off your lips and then CAREFULLY apply the ultra matte. Seriously, if you make a mistake, these are so pigmented that it is almost impossible to remove any mistakes without having to remove all your make up from above your upper lip all the way down to your chin.

While, I think the two colors I picked in the Ultra Mattes are very pretty, I will probably not order anymore because, I really don’t have the time (or desire) for high maintenance lip products. To be fair, I have a bit of an occasional tremor in my hands and that is the main reason these aren’t for me (it’s also why I rarely wear eyeliner). If you don’t have that issue you may not have as many issues as I did.

Well that wraps up this ColourPop lip review. I will also be doing a haul/review on some of the Super Shock Eyeshadows very soon, so be on the look out for that post!

Are you a long time ColourPop fan or a newbie like me?

If you love ColourPop what should I add to my list to try next??

Thanks for reading!
