October 2015 Favorites!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hello friends!

I haven’t done a monthly favorites in a long time, but I’ve had quite a few things I’ve really enjoyed this month and wanted to share them with you, so I decided to do a favorites post!

My new friend Roo on Instagram (Go follow her! She does epic makeup looks and loves tea!) recommended Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea by Harney & Sons and I have been obsessed with it since it arrived. If you ever loved red hot candies as a kid (or if you are like me, I still love them) this tea is like drinking the candy in liquid form. I add a splash of almond milk and it’s just amazing.

This month I finally ordered some goodies from ColourPop and found two items that have made their way into my 5 minute/everyday face. Hanky Panky eyeshadow and Lumiere lip pencil. I love them both!

Our family is starting to explore Essential Oils for various reasons and after a TON of personal research, my favorite companies are Edens Garden and Plant Therapy. I will be doing a full post on which oils we are using and why, but my two favorite oils this month are Sunshine Spice and Good Night.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sunshine Spice is a blend of the following oils:  Balsam, Camphor, Cinnamon Bark, Cinnamon Leaf, Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) and Sweet Orange. I add it to Fractionated Coconut Oil put in a perfume roller ball and have been wearing it as a perfume. It is a very uplifting and a great fall scent!

Good Night is a blend of Chamomile, Clary Sage, Copaiba, Lavender, Peru Balsam, Sandalwood, Sweet Marjoram and Ylang Ylang. We are a family of insomniacs. Liam has trouble sleeping (which is typical for some ASD kids) which throws my sleep schedule off as well. We blend this with Fractionated Coconut Oil in a roller ball and apply it to Liam’s feet and the back of his neck and it has made such a difference! I also use it on myself (I apply it to my feet and my wrists) and while it doesn’t help me fall asleep, I do feel it helps me to stay sleeping longer.

One of the nail polishes I have been obsessed with this month is Zoya’s Cinnamon. I am terrible with nail polish, so if I am taking the time to use it, I am really and truly obsessed. It’s really a perfect fall color.

Finally, I want to talk about Supernatural Season 11 because, HOLY CRAP!!

Supernatural Season 11

You’d think after 11 seasons, there wouldn’t be anything new that this show could do, but Supernatural is kicking butt and just churning out great television. Specifically, the recent episode Baby, which takes place from the Impala’s point of view. It has moved into one of my absolute favorite episodes. I don’t want to post spoilers because it’s a very new episode, but it was just an amazing episode full of brother moments.

Well, that’s about it for this favorites post, what have you been obsessed with this past month?

Thanks for reading!

ColourPop Haul and Review Part 2!!

Hello friends!

I’m back with the second part of my first ever ColourPop Haul (check out part one here) and today I have for you three of ColourPop’s Super Shock Shadows. If you are a newbie like me, then you need to know that the Super Shock Shadows are like a cream and powder eyeshadow hybrid. They feel cool/damp to the touch and for best pigmentation you should use your finger to apply, although synthetic brushes can be used if you want a softer, diffused look.

Okay, let’s get started!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Up first is Boy Band ($5) this shadow has an Ultra Metallic Finish and it is described as an intense red copper. They were not kidding about intense, this color screams fall!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I used a synthetic brush to apply this because it is super intense and in the future, I will probably use this as an eyeliner.

Next is Hanky Panky ($5) this is a matte shadow and is described as a cool toned taupe. I seriously have a taupe eyeshadow problem and I’m sure it’s not a surprise that this one is my favorite!

This swatch is built up several times because Hanky Panky is pretty close to my skin tone and wouldn’t show up, all other swatches are one swipe.

I know you are probably thinking…uh what is so special about a matte taupe?? Well, this is so easy to apply with my finger, it has quickly become my go to shadow for a five minute face for morning drop off at school.

My last shadow to share with you today is La La ($5) and is described as a true rose gold in an Ultra Metallic Finish.

This eyeshadow swatches so pretty, but sadly my search for my perfect rose gold for me lives on. This color is so so pretty, but I just don’t like it on me, I may have to come to grips with the fact that rose gold on my eyes is just not going to work.

Well, I have to say that I feel like ColourPop lives up to the hype and I may have already placed another order to try more goodies….please don’t judge me!

Do you have a favorite eyeshadow from ColourPop?

Will I ever find a Rose Gold that doesn’t look weird on me??

My First Ever ColourPop Haul & Review!

Hello friends!

I think I may be the very last cruelty free makeup junkie to try ColourPop. I’m not sure why I had such a total lack of awareness because lots of bloggers I follow rave about ColourPop all the time (as they should). I was so out of the loop, I didn’t even realize how freaking affordable the brand is, I mean almost everything below $10?? WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG???

In case you, like me, were one of the few holdouts, ColourPop is a cruelty free, mostly vegan online makeup company. It was easier for them to list the items that were not vegan under their FAQ section than to list the vegan options.

Since everything is so affordable, I decided to jump way the heck outside my comfort zone and try some darker lip colors, including two of the newer shades of the Ultra Mattes.

Prepare yourself for the Super Serious Lip Swatch Photos.

Let’s get started!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Okay, I just want to say for the record that I LOATHE the word “Lippie” I know a lot of people have a problem with the word moist, well lippie is my moist. Why would I order items with a word I despise in the name? I wanted to see if they were as awesome as everyone claimed. Spoiler Alert: THEY ARE INDEED AWESOME!!

I saw a review on YouTube stating that the Lippie Pencils (lip liners) were so soft that they could be used on their own without lipstick. Since that was all the rage back when I was a teenager (I graduated HS in 1997, yes I am an old), I decided to order two Pencils without ordering the Lippie Stix (lipstick) of the same colour.

I ordered Lumiere ($5) which is the color from a collaboration ColourPop did with YouTuber KathleenLights. Lumiere is described as a dusty mauve pink. I don’t generally go for mauves as anything that is too nude and/or brown tend to make me look like I am sick, but I was pleasantly surprised by Lumiere.

The other pencil only color I ordered was Contempo ($5) Contempo is described as a mid tone dusty rose. Contempo is definitely more in my neutral pink comfort zone.

My final verdict on the Lippie Pencils? The above pictures are just the pencils. I don’t have any balm under or over the color. They truly are super soft and easy to apply. They are so soft they dull pretty quickly so I would recommend stashing a lip pencil sharpener in your purse/makeup bag, because you will need it if you use these daily. I experienced no drying and will absolutely be buying more of these.

The other lippie pencils I bought, I also bought the Matte Lippie Stix that goes with it. Also, from here on out these colors are WAY out of the norm for me 🙂

LBB ($5 each) LBB was a collab with blogger LittleBlackBoots LBB is described as a rich plum wine.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Next up is Dazed this is described as a berry red. RED! I have always been intimidated by reds, so I went way out on a limb but I was a little comforted by the berry description.

My thoughts on the Matte Lippie (ugh that word! shudder) Stix are that they are pretty easy to apply and I didn’t find them drying. I enjoyed getting to try out these darker shades and I’m slowly getting used to dark matte shades. I will be trying more of the Matte shades. I will say that I really don’t think you need to order the pencil and lipstick in the same shade because either one is more than enough to give totally opaque comfortable coverage.

Let’s move on to the Ultra Mattes!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I ordered the shades Bad Habit described as a dusty mauve pink and More Better described as a deep violet wine. ($6 each). These come in a typical lip gloss/doe foot applicator, but these are no lip gloss my friends. These are matte liquid lipsticks. They also take a little bit of work. You will need to make sure you exfoliate your lips and preferably apply a lip balm while you are working on the rest of your makeup. Once you are ready to apply the ultra mattes make sure you blot the lip balm off your lips and then CAREFULLY apply the ultra matte. Seriously, if you make a mistake, these are so pigmented that it is almost impossible to remove any mistakes without having to remove all your make up from above your upper lip all the way down to your chin.

While, I think the two colors I picked in the Ultra Mattes are very pretty, I will probably not order anymore because, I really don’t have the time (or desire) for high maintenance lip products. To be fair, I have a bit of an occasional tremor in my hands and that is the main reason these aren’t for me (it’s also why I rarely wear eyeliner). If you don’t have that issue you may not have as many issues as I did.

Well that wraps up this ColourPop lip review. I will also be doing a haul/review on some of the Super Shock Eyeshadows very soon, so be on the look out for that post!

Are you a long time ColourPop fan or a newbie like me?

If you love ColourPop what should I add to my list to try next??
