Julep Diamond Mystery Box Review

Hello my friends! I am back from my Girls Weekend and feeling refreshed! There will be no pictures this year, because we were so gloriously lazy we stayed in the condo, ate junk food, watched tv and just relaxed. It was AWESOME!

Way back in November I ordered the Diamond Mystery Box from Julep. I also chose one of the Mystery Upgrades for 9.99. I did get a wide variety of products, but I really wasn’t feeling excited about everything which is probably why it took so long to put this post up!

Since I have used some of these products several times, I will post my thoughts as we go!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASky & Chantel are the Diamond parts of the Diamond Mystery Box, Everyone received these products. These are top coats with Diamond Cut pieces of glitter. I have not used these yet.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERACrystal Nail File Easy to use and a nice addition to any nail kit.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERADry Clean Invisible Dry Shampoo  I would not pay 22.00 for this product. It works okay, but the Batiste Dry Shampoo works much better (and is way cheaper!).

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAClean Slate Polish Corrector Pen I was happy to receive this, but it doesn’t do a better job than the Corrector Pen I bought at Ulta. Freedom Polymer Top Coat This is actually a great top coat and I’m glad it was included in this box! Mighty Nail and Cuticle Serum I received this product in my last Mystery Box, but it works like a dream, so I’m happy to have it again!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAGel Eye Glider in Blackest Black I haven’t used this product, but it is waiting it’s turn in my lineup!

Julep Lip Gloss in Polished I haven’t used this product, but it is waiting it’s turn in my lineup!

Now onto the polishes:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANancy Silvery sage metallic This was a color that surprised me! In the bottle it appears silver, so I had to go online to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating the green tone.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAusten Rich royal blue shimmer. This is my least favorite of the polishes. I like the color, but it chipped almost immediately (you can see it in the picture) and I woke up twice to several nails being totally clear of color. The polish had somehow peeled off my nail in one whole piece while I slept. Weird.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANic Black crimson crème This was my favorite off the group. The crimson is very subtle but it is a great winter color.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAEliana Soft denim crème This is a great wintery blue. Second favorite of this group.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWell, that is all for this Mystery Box. I didn’t love it as much as the previous one, but I wasn’t disappointed enough to skip the next Mystery Box when Julep releases another box.

JULEP Trick & Treat Mystery Box Unboxing

witch hat cropped

I recently decided I wanted to try some Julep nail colors, but I didn’t want to spend 24.99/month for a subscription and didn’t want to pay 14.00 for one nail polish (because I’m cheap). Luckily, I received an email advertising the Trick & Treat Mystery  Box! It was 24.99 for the box and it advertised you would get over 100.00 worth of product! I decided to take the plunge and try it out!

On to the goodies!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMask Noir  32.00 An antioxidant-rich peel-off black mask that leaves skin smoother, brighter, and deeply hydrated. Well this product by itself paid for the box! I have never tried a black mask, so I’m excited to give this a shot!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMighty Nail & Cuticle Serum 28.00 Peptides – super-charged amino acids that build keratin (for your nails) and collagen (for your cuticles) – are our Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum’s secret weapon to transform dry and damaged cuticles almost overnight. Plus, get visibly stronger, smoother nails with fewer ridges and less splitting and brittleness in only 2-3 weeks. Another product I have never tried and can’t wait to start using!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAElixir Organic Moroccan Argan Oil 2 pack usually 48.00 NOW ON SALE 24.99 A lightweight, fast-absorbing organic moisturizer known for its healing, conditioning, and anti-aging effects. Use a couple drops to hydrate a thirsty complexion (it’s good for all skin types), smooth split ends, or soften rough cuticles. I actually have a huge bottle of Jose Maran’s Argan Oil that I am trying out right now. Since I don’t need this bottle, it is going to go in my giveaway for my birthday!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANow the four nail colors that came in this box! Just as a reminder, nail polish is my beauty weakness, in that I can’t seem to get the hang of it (even though I love it), so please excuse my polish application in the pictures!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAEstelle 14.00 Midnight black with holographic shimmer I think this might be my favorite of the four! It is totally different than any other polish I have ever owned. When it dries it does have a rough sand like texture, so I plan to always wear a top coat with Estelle.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERALola 14.00 Moonlit night blue satin I believe Julep’s Satin Finish is their version of a matte polish. This is another first for me, as it is my first matte finish polish! It is a very pretty navy color.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERATatiana 14.00 Golden burnt orange microglitter This color is perfect for Halloween! I will be wearing this, when we go to our local Trunk or Treat event!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAKendra 14.00 Army green frost I feel like this is a great color for fall and will be wearing it quite a bit between now and Thanksgiving!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe total value of this box is approximately 140.00! I feel like I definitely got my money’s worth and will be buying future mystery boxes, when I see them advertised!

Have you purchased a mystery box from Julep? Don’t forget to be looking out for my giveaway post, so you can enter to win the Julep Argan Oil!

Jamberry First Impression & Review

When Valerie of Atlanta Mom of Three asked if I had tried Jamberry Nails and I said I hadn’t, I decided to find out if they were cruelty free. I emailed Jamberry through their website and asked if they tested on animals and if they sold in China where testing is required by law. Caroline emailed me back with the following: None of Jamberry’s products are tested on animals. Jamberry doesn’t distribute in China; only in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. All Jamberry’s product are non-toxic and don’t damage the nail. She then asked if I would like some wraps to try and review and I replied yes!

Even though these wraps were sent to me free of charge, my review will be 100% honest. Since I didn’t purchase them through a friend who is selling the wraps, I don’t have to worry about helping or hurting anyone’s business.

I was sent Victorian Lace and Adam’s Favorite:

There are easy to follow instructions on Jamberry’s Website here and I also found a channel on YouTube Beauty and Jams who also had some great easy to follow videos!

After watching several videos, I decided to jump in and try Victorian Lace.

You start by gathering the supplies you will need: Nail Polish Remover (to rub on finger nails to remove oil), Hair Dryer, Cuticle Stick, Nail Scissors and a Nail File.

You  find the wrap that best fits your nail by holding the sheet over your nails and find the closest match. It is better for the wrap to be slightly too narrow than too wide.

Then use your cuticle stick (I hope that is the correct term?!) to gently lift the edge of the wrap off the sheet:

You want to touch the wraps with your fingers as little as possible. When you have lifted enough of the wrap to fit your nail, cut with scissors. Leave the cut portion of the wrap attached to your cuticle stick and hold in front of your hair dryer 5 – 10 seconds. Once the wrap is heated apply to your nail. Make sure to adhere the curved end toward your cuticle and not the cut end! Press down firmly with the cuticle stick and make sure to use enough pressure to remove any air bubbles. You then want to trim the edges and using the nail file trim off the excess using downward strokes.

Nail Color is Julep’s Claudette, which is a nice brick red.

Would I purchase? Yes! I have been browsing the website and noticed several Halloween and Christmas/Winter themed wraps I would love to own.

Would I recommend Jamberry Nail Wraps: Yes, I would! They are 15.00 a sheet, but you get several uses out of each sheet.

My verdict on Jamberry Nail Wraps: Clearly my technique needs some work, but these are super easy to use! My technique will be improving because I intend to keep using this product and I am going to work on a pedicure next!

I hope this First Impression/Review was helpful!

Have you tried Jamberry Nail Wraps?

*I do not sell Jamberry Nail Wraps and am not affiliated with anyone who sells Jamberry Nail Wraps. The YouTube Channel linked above was something I found helpful, but I do not know the owner of Beauty and Jams.

DIY Summer Pedi

Hey guys!

What happens when a klutz with polish (and life in general) falls down and has a horrific nail casualty?  She has to learn how to improvise!

While on vacation a few weeks ago, I slipped and fell and ripped my right big toe nail clean off. Once I got over the urge to pass out and got cleaned up, I started worrying about what was important….pedicures!  I live in Florida and staying in closed toe shoes in the summer is not an option for me…but walking around with nine painted toe nails looks goofy.

I had already started working on my own home pedi kit when I was contacted by Abbey at Julep asking me to create my perfect summer DIY pedicure. I don’t have a lot, but what I do have is all very easy to use!

Let’s get started!

The Emjoi is a battery operated dry skin and callus remover.  They are available on QVC for 30.00.  That may seem like a lot of money, but this little guy is amazing. Instead of getting your feet scrubbed by those scary razor looking things at a nail salon, invest in this little guy. It’s micro-mineral roller helps to smooth away dead skin and if you press too hard on your foot it shuts off.  I love that it has that built in protection!  You need to use this on dry feet, so I use this first.

Once I finish with the Emjoi, I move on to a foot soak with Dr Teal’s Epsom Salt. It also helps while my ankle is still feeling tweaked from falling a few weeks ago!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAfter the foot soak, it is time to moisturize!  I am currently enjoying Freeman’s Bare Foot Lavender & Mint.  You can purchase this at Walmart.  It smells and feels amazing!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFor my polish color I chose Zoya’s Thandie.  It is a very pretty summery orange.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAfter polish of course comes top coat.  I just grabbed whatever was in my polish drawer. Nail Aid Gel Xtreme Shine Top Coat.  I’m pretty sure I got this at Walmart.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASo because of my missing nail, I had to get creative with my pedi.  My inspiration behind this pedicure and the reason I used Thandie (besides it being a super pretty color) was to coordinate with these:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI had these in my medicine cabinet for Liam and thought they would work to cover my toe nail in public so that I could still wear sandals and flip flops.  It actually works pretty well!  Here is the finished look:

I realize this is slightly different than a typical summer pedi post, but what did you think?  Do you have any other ideas that I can use to disguise my toe?

Have you tried any Julep nail polish? I have a long wish list I want to try. What is your favorite Julep polish?
