Meal Prep with Sunsella Buddy Box

I have been concentrating on eating healthy and portion control over the last few weeks and I’ve found the easiest way to stay on track is to meal prep. If I already have food portioned out and ready to go, I am much more likely to eat actual food rather than grab cheez its and chocolate chip cookies for lunch. I follow a bunch of healthy eaters and meal preppers on Instagram and they all use bento style boxes to stay on track, so when I had the chance to review Sunsella’s Buddy Boxes I jumped at the chance!

Now, because our house is about the size of a shoebox we are very limited on storage, but one of the great things about these bento boxes is they are super easy to stack together when they aren’t in use.

These lunch boxes claim to be dishwasher, freezer and microwave safe. I can absolutely vouch for the freezer and microwave safe claims, sadly, due to our shoebox home we don’t have a dishwasher (don’t even get me started), but the lids and the boxes seem to be sturdy enough to survive without warping in the dishwasher.

These lunch boxes are BPA, phthalate and lead free and the lids are easy enough to open that you could send these to school with younger children and they would be able to get the lid off with no problem. The only major con is that these are not leak proof, so any kind of sauces or salad dressings added could make a mess if the bento boxes get tossed around during transport to school or work. Since I am a stay at home mom, that isn’t a concern for me, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up on a possible issue in using these boxes.

I have really enjoyed using he Sunsella Buddy Box and I am going to purchase a set of four for myself (they are on sale for 15.99) so that I can continue to meal prep without having to be limited to just four boxes.

Do you meal prep? Do you have any tips for a newbie?

#BreakYouMake with Chobani

I love Chobani Greek Yogurt. I use it for protein in smoothies (the pineapple and blood orange flavors work great in green smoothies) and the plain greek yogurt is a great ranch dressing alternative, so when Chobani challenged me to participate in the #BreakYouMake campaign I said absolutely!!

The #BreakYouMake Campaign is running throughout the month of June and it is a project that honors someone in your life who deserves to take a break. I knew immediately who I wanted to honor and that is this guy:

This handsome fella is my husband, Trent. Trent went back to school and became an electrician, which I could never have done because electrician = a ton of math. I hate math 🙂

He works overtime whenever it is available so that I can stay home with our son, Liam. He works hard every single day (without complaining!!) to make sure our family is taken care of and still makes time to hang out and have fun with our family. He is awesome and he 100% deserves a break!

My New Obsession: David’s Tea!

image

In the last few months I decided to give up soda in an effort to clean up my diet. I am not a big coffee drinker so I decided to replace my morning Coke with tea. I tried several brands before stumbling onto a review for David’s Tea. If you are following me on Instagram then you already know about my love of David’s Tea. Everything I have tried has been excellent and I am hooked!

I ordered The Christmas Morning Collection (this is still available and it’s 40% off!) and The Happy Collection (which no longer seems to be available, but you can still purchase the individual teas).  Every time you place an order, David’s Tea will send you three free samples!

Now on to the individual teas!

Bubbie’s Baklava: this is a low caffeine Oolong tea that contains walnuts, almonds, pistachios, pineapple, papaya, cinnamon, apple and ginger. It tastes like dessert!

image

Santa’s Secret is a medium caffeine black tea with candy cane sprinkles. This is great first thing in the morning!

image

Cocomint Cream is a fruit infusion with no caffeine. It contains coconut, apples, sweet blackberry leaves, peppermint and spearing. This is a great tea to relax with at the end of the day, you can also drink this as an iced tea!

The Happy Collection came with three bags of tea and a ten pack of tea filters.
The tea filters are pretty generously sized and easy to use. Please ignore the random Kiefer hair in the pic below.

image

Forever Nuts is a fruit infusion with no caffeine. This tea contains apples, almonds, cinnamon and beetroot. This is also a tea you can drink iced and due to the beetroot the tea turns into a bright pink color!

image

Birthday Cake is a Rooibos tea that is caffeine free. This tea contains milk and soy and SPRINKLES! When you steep this tea it actually smells like birthday cake. Love it!

image

image

Happy Kombucha is a low caffeine Oolong tea that contains mango, pineapple, safflower petals and of course Kombucha powder. I had never heard of Kombucha so I wasn’t sure I would care for this tea, but just like everything else I have tried from David’s it was yummy!

Well friends, that wraps up this tea haul and review. I have already placed another order with David’s Tea and ordered a little something extra for a giveaway I am working on for you guys!

Have you tried anything from David’s Tea? Do you have a favorite tea I should try?

September 2014 Favorites

september favorites

Sorry I am a few days late!

September was a weird month for me beauty wise. I kept things pretty minimal, but here are the products I was using the most!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It Cosmetics Celebration Foundation I am going to have a full review on this foundation, but I loved it this month for it’s quick application and staying power!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Wet n Wild’s Melrose at Night (swatches here). When I wore eyeshadow at all this month, this is what I grabbed. I love the colors and I love using the Definer shade as eyeliner. I really probably should buy a back up of this palette since they are limited edition!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI usually have a problem with dry, flaky, chapped lips when the seasons change and I am taking preventative action this year! I have been using LUSH’s Bubblegum Lip Scrub & Mi-Me Tangerine Lip Butter all month and love how soft my lips have become thanks to this duo! (Check out my August Petit Vour Post for more info on the Mi-Me Lip Butter!) I had to dig the lip butter out of my purse for this picture (you can see from the ink marks on the label,it has been well loved) because I carry it with me everywhere!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI have finally used up my samples from Rose Mira. I love the Citrus Blossom I-Restore Eye Cream (review here) and the Moisturize Me Citrus Restorative Cream. These samples lasted a long time and I can’t wait to get full sizes of these items. My under eye area and face are the most moisturized they have been in a long time thanks to these products!

My favorite good for me snack items this month were:

Snikiddy's Eat Your Vegetables in Sea Salt. Liam hasn't tried this yet, but I have and really like it! As someone who is not a veggie eater, I wouldn't have thought I would like something made of veggies, but this is good! Going to try more! Gluten Free, Vegan

Nature's All Foods Freeze Dried Apples . THESE ARE SO YUMMY! Gluten Free, Vegan

That wraps it up for September Favorites! What have you been loving this month?

Whole Foods Snack Haul

Liam has quite a restricted diet, which can be common with kids with autism. I have had some people say to me “Oh he will eat when he gets hungry enough” which is NOT the case with kids with sensory issues. They will go hungry indefinitely before they will eat something that can trigger a sensory issue.

I have been looking for ways to get Liam to eat more protein and veggies. He seems to really enjoy carbs (he is totally my son!) and will eat chips, french fries and crackers until he explodes. He will occasionally eat grilled cheese, PB & J and chicken nuggets. However, even those items are not really healthy.

Then, I saw this video on my Youtube Feed and a light bulb went off!

We are not a Gluten Free/Vegetarian/Vegan household, but that is no reason not to start trying some of those foods! If I can sneak Liam foods that have veggies and protein, that would make things so much easier! Also, Trent and I are trying to eat healthier, so it would be good for us also!

Here are some of the snacks I purchased and we are going to be testing over the next few weeks!

Beanitos Nacho Cheese. These actually taste pretty close to Nacho Cheese Doritos! Liam has been scarfing these down!
