Fan Girl Friday: Girls Weekend Edition!

This weekend is our second annual Girls Weekend! You are probably wondering what do three moms in their 30’s do on a weekend away? Well, besides the fact that my girls are just awesome in general, we all want to do the same thing! We are going to be as lazy as possible, eat a lot of yummy food, watch tv (Leverage specifically) and if we decide to leave the condo we are going to do some Christmas shopping!

Here are some pics from last year:

I will be on Instagram and Twitter a bit this weekend.

Next week, I will be sharing my Black Friday purchases from Coastal Scents, Kiss My Sass and Geek Chic (if the Geek Chic package is here) and I will be posting a Julep Haul and Review, so stay tuned!

Hope everyone has an excellent weekend!

Fan Girl Friday Vol 5: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

AGENTS-OF-SHIELD-600x337Okay, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (AoS) is off to a great start this season, and my favorite character so far is Fitz. Iain De Caestecker is killing it (and me) portraying Fitz’s frustration with his diminished capacity and his inability to verbally articulate what is in his head.

fitz 1 fitz 2 fitz 3

I’m trying to not be super spoilery, but I must have watched this Fitz scene several times. It was amazing! I am so excited to see where he and the other members of the team end up this season!

Do you watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? If so, what are your thoughts about this season?

Thanks for reading!

Fan Girl Friday Vol 4: The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness

Affiliate Link

You guys, I just finished The Book of Life: A Novel (All Souls Trilogy 3) which is the last book in the All Souls Trilogy. I am sad it is over and I really REALLY would like more books in this universe please! I don’t want to say too much and spoil someone, but I want to know more about these people!

If you love Vampires, Witches and Time Travel then you need to read these books NOW. It’s also a great read if you are into history, as the main character, Dr. Diana Bishop is a professor who specializes in alchemy and she spends a lot of time researching it’s history. She is also descended from the first woman executed in the Salem Witch Trials and wants nothing to do with her heritage.

So now that I have finished the trilogy, I am well into the sadness that I may never learn anything else about these characters and:

I wish I could go into more detail about the awesomeness of these books, but I really want everyone to read them first!

Have you read these books?

Fan Girl Friday Vol 3: Shopkick, Roku & World War Z

In this volume of Fan Girl Friday I have three things I want to share with you!!

First up is my favorite app for my phone!

It is the shopkick app** Shopkick is the main way I save money on buying makeup and other random things I really really want, but am too cheap to spend big bucks on! It is free and so easy to use. You download the app and you get points (or kicks) when you walk into certain stores (Target, JC Penny, Old Navy and many more), you can also get kicks by scanning items in store or by flipping through the look books in the app. When you have enough points you can turn the points into gift cards. I usually use my points for gift cards to Sephora or Target. I currently have a 10.00 Sephora gift card on my phone and I am close to earning another one! Once I have earned another gift card I am going to get some free makeup!

Second on my list is our Roku.

We have one for our bedroom tv (we don’t have cable in there). It is one of my all time favorite inventions. It is super small and once it is connected to your tv and home wifi you can download Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and tons of free or cheap Roku channels! Also, if you have a cable or satellite subscription you can also download some of your favorite cable channels and watch currently playing shows or whatever is on demand for that channel. The Roku is so easy to use and a great investment!

Last up, is the novel World War Z.

If you have only seen the movie with Brad Pitt, I would really urge you to read the novel. Pretty much the only thing the movie and novel have in common is the name of the main character (Gerry – Brad Pitt’s character in the movie) and the title of the book/movie. They movie changed the entire story line. I was totally disappointed! The novel (to me anyway) is a new take on the zombie genre due to the fact that it takes place after the zombie apocalypse. Gerry is traveling the world and interviewing survivors and getting their stories for history. As a history nerd, I loved it! You still get the suspense in each interview/chapter of how the person being interviewed made it out alive, but in a new and interesting take. The movie was an okay zombie movie, but the book is awesome!

Have you used/read anything on this Fan Girl Friday list? Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks for reading!

**This is a personal referral link, I don’t get money, but I do get points if you sign up and use the app.

Fan Girl Friday: Arrow Season 1

I am starting a new series called Fan Girl Friday (FGF).  Each Friday, I will do a blog post about something I am really enjoying (obsessed with) at the moment.  It could be a tv show, movie, book, music, other blogs.  Pretty much anything and everything that is consuming my thoughts.

For our first FGF, I want to talk to you about season one of Arrow and by talk I mean ramble incoherently! There are plenty of people who post in depth meta/analysis of their favorite tv shows, but sadly I am not one of them, I just want to talk about the awesomeness.  My friends are sick of me describing how awesome this show is (they don’t watch), so I thought I would ramble to the internet.

Are you watching this show?? Why isn’t season 2 out on Netflix yet? I realize they just finished season 2 this year and the dvd’s aren’t even available for purchase yet, but don’t come at me with logic like that!! I NEED TO SEE SEASON TWO!!

Spoilers for Season 1 below:

My favorite character is Felicity Smoak.  She is my spirit animal.

I was very surprised by how much I loved this show. I really wish I had caught this from the beginning as it is really hard to avoid spoilers online!

I really need Oliver and Felicity to stop making googly eyes at each other and start making genius archer babies.  Like right now! I know some people who ‘ship “Olicity” (Oliver/Felicity together) can’t stand Laurel Lance’s character, but I really like her.  Maybe that will change as I get caught up.

Also, this show has had guest appearances by Alex Kingston and John Barrowman. How could I not love any show that has River Song and Captain Jack??

Do you watch Arrow?  If you do, tell me why you love it in the comment section below!! Let me know what you think I should feature on future FGF posts!
