E.L.F. Black Friday Haul

enhanced-10112-1429648353-15

Hello friends! Today I want to share with you some of the goodies I bought during E.L.F.’s Black Friday sale!

If you aren’t familiar with e.l.f. they are a super affordable, cruelty free drugstore brand. You can find them in Target, Walmart, Walgreens and CVS stores, but quite a few of their products are only available on their website. Even though their regular prices are super affordable, they have quite a few great sales through out the year!

Let’s get started with the haul!

I grabbed a few of their brushes (brushes are vegan friendly):

Blending Brush ($6) This brush isn’t available on their website right now, which usually means they have sold out. I will admit, I had no idea how short this brush would be when I decided to buy it. I’m guessing it’s good for blending out bronzer or contour, I will have to play with it to figure out the best use for me!

Contouring Brush ($6) Per the website: This brush is specifically designed for advanced makeup application to help achieve professional looks. The densely packed hair and structured shape achieves flawless dimension along the cheekbones, forehead, and jawline for targeted contouring. I haven’t used this brush yet, because I haven’t had time to play with the (spoilers!) contour palette I also bought from e.l.f., but I’m excited to start playing with both!

Small Tapered Brush ($6) This brush is also no longer showing up on e.l.f.’s website. I have been using this brush quite a bit as it is the perfect size for setting under eye concealer, highlighting your cheekbones and even highlighting the inner corner of your eyes. This is a great multi-use brush and if it comes back in stock on the website, I will probably grab another one!

Blending Brush ($3) I actually saw Emily from EmilyNoel83 rave about how much she loved this eye blending brush, but it was never in stock after her video went up until the Black Friday sale, when I snatched it up. I haven’t had the chance to use it yet, but you can pretty much guarantee that anything Emily recommends is going to be great!

Hydrating Under Eye Primer ($3) I’m not 100% sold that this is anything other than a decent and affordable under eye moisturizer. It feels really nice on the skin, but I don’t feel it creates any kind of barrier to prevent my concealer from getting into the lines under my eyes. I’m going to keep using it but I probably won’t repurchase.

Kiss It Goodbye Lip Color Remover ($3) I will be repurchasing this! I have used this several times to remove and reapply ColourPop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks while I was out running errands to see if it was travel friendly and it is! Yes, you could use coconut oil or olive oil at home to remove lip products, but what if you mess up applying your lipstick in the car or need to go out after work and want to change to a more evening appropriate lip color? I’m going to keep this and some cotton pads in my makeup bag because it’s small and it works!!

Illuminating Palette ($6) I have read several times that this is a dupe for the Hourglass Ambient Light Palette, I can’t speak to that because I do not own that palette. I can tell you that if you are wanting a full on super highlighted strobey face, this may not be for you. All the highlight shades in this palette are very subtle, which I personally love. This palette does kick up some powder but not so much that it makes using the palette annoying. If you are into subtle highlights or just wanting to try out several shades of highlighting powder to find out which tone suits you best, without making a huge investment, you should 100% check out this palette!

Contour Palette ($6) I haven’t had a chance to play with this palette yet because with the holidays and how busy we’ve been, I’ve been mostly sticking to my tried and true makeup products. My only complaint so far is that e.l.f. only has this one palette with no other shade options, so this probably won’t work for everyone.

Blushing Rose Blush ($3) Finally, I grabbed one of the Studio Blushes in Blushing Rose. e.l.f. makes great blushes and I highly recommend trying them out if you are on a budget (even if you’re not on a budget still check them out!). Blushing Rose has a bit of shimmer that you can see in the pan, but it doesn’t show up as glitter on the face.

Well, that wraps up this haul (with a few mini reviews) and as I use some of these products more extensively, I may post some more in depth reviews.

Do you have any favorite e.l.f. products I should try?

My First Ever Product Fail Post

FAIL Hello friends! My life has slowly begun returning to a somewhat normal schedule, and I am excited to get back to a normal posting schedule! I have a crazy back log of posts coming your way so stay tuned!

I have three different products that for one reason or other just did not work for me. If they worked for you awesome, please tell me about it. I’d love any tips that may save these products from being tossed out!

Jordana Modern Matte Lipsticks I purchased these from Walgreens for 2.48 each and they are talc and paraben free. I have read a lot of positive reviews, but none of these worked for me. I have a feeling the fail with these is just an allergic reaction because while the color payoff was great and it acted more like a stain than a lipstick (all good things!), my lips started to hurt within a few minutes of application. Sadly, even though I purchased five shades I had the same reaction to all of them. I am including a swatch of the shades I chose, because they are very pretty and I hope they work for you guys!

Juice Beauty Stem Cellular CC Cream I received a sample of this in one of my Petit Vour Boxes in Warm Glow. I’m going to be honest, I just did not like this product. I feel like this did not give any more coverage than what a typical drugstore tinted moisturizer would provide. A full size of this CC Cream is 39.00 if you are willing to spend that amount of money, I would recommend spending a few more dollars and try NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (43.00).

The last item of my fail list is also from Petit Vour:
Lily Lolo Mascara I have to tell you this is an excellent mascara, it makes my lashes look fuller and longer and I want so badly for this not to be a fail for me, but unfortunately it is a fail. It is “spring” here in Florida (spring meaning the few weeks when it is really hot and polleny and not just really hot) and with that comes allergies. I have had this mascara end up partially down my face three times from only very slightly watering eyes, so I can’t wear it! I would suggest giving it a try as it is vegan, non-toxic and cruelty free. Hopefully, it will work better for you!

Well, that wraps up my first fail post, I hope not to have to do to many of these because I don’t want to be negative, but I do want to be honest when something doesn’t work for me.

Have you tried any of these products? How did they work for you?

Ulta Haul & Review!

ULTAlogo_6_20

Hello friends! Today I am bringing you a review of some goodies I bought quite awhile ago from Ulta. One of the few good things about having a computer that doesn’t work, is that I have been using a bunch of different things during the down time and can give thorough reviews on these products!

First up is the Ulta Dual Action Cleansing System 25.00 I have always wanted to try one of the Clarisonics but didn’t want to spend the big bucks. There are several drugstore versions out there but they weren’t cruelty free brands, so when I saw that Ulta had a cruelty free version I snapped it up. I have to say, I thought I had a good cleansing system in place, but I was SHOCKED at how much makeup was apparently left on my face after my normal facial cleaning. I obviously can’t compare this to a Clarisonic, but if you are looking to get some of the benefits at a fraction of the price, check out the Ulta version!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANext we have the Ulta Lip & Cheek Color Stick in Mauves 10.00 This is one of Ulta’s newer products. This product is super easy to apply and blend. I have used it on my lips and cheeks and enjoyed it. I did not find it to be super moisturizing on my lips, but it didn’t dry me out. This is a great product to have if you are running late and need to get out the door in a hurry! I do want to emphasize that this is not a stain, so if you buy one, please don’t expect it to have super hard core staying power.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOn to the eye products!

I picked up two of the new Ulta Eye Crayons. The first one I grabbed is called Bronzed and the reason I grabbed it is that Ulta has another eye product (Ulta Color Coat Cream Eyesahdow) with the same name and I wanted to compare them. You can see in the swatches below that they are not the same color, so it annoys me they gave the same name to two different products! The other eye crayon I grabbed is called Cocoa Puff. Ulta describes Cocoa Puff as a taupe brown metallic shimmer and Bronzed as a warm bronze shimmer. They are easy to apply and blend out, but even using Too Faced Shadow Insurance or It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye as a base, they tend to fade after a few hours. Because of their  tendency to fade I have generally been using these for convenience and ease of application in the mornings when we are trying to get to preschool drop off. I would not use them if I needed them to last all day.

For some reason my picture of Cocoa Puff wouldn’t load 😦

Here are the swatches:

On a totally random note, I decided to play with some filters on my phone and here are the results:

cropped bronzed eye filter cropped cocoa puff eye filterI’m not sure whose beautiful glowing skin that is, but it’s not mine! I don’t think my skin has looked like that since I was five years old and probably not even then. Good grief, it’s enough of a difference to give me self confidence issues if I was constantly trying to make myself look like that in real life!

Have you guys tried any of these Ulta products? Do you have any favorite cruelty free drugstore products that are quick and easy to use?

Wet n Wild Fall 2014 Haul

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Well guys, my hunt is over! I have been stalking nearby Walgreens for these Limited Edition Color Icon Palettes from Wet n Wild and I finally found them! I bought Smoke and Melrose (On the left) and Melrose at Night (on the right). These are part of Wet n Wild’s Fall 2014 Collection.

I have seen on several blogs and YouTube Channels that there are some shades that are considered dupes for the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. I don’t own that palette, so I can’t verify that for myself, but looking at swatches online I would feel comfortable saying they are at least very similar.

Here are some pictures:

Sad PSA: Milani & Jordana Are No Longer Cruelty Free

As first reported by Logical Harmony Milani and Jordana are no longer cruelty free.  See posts by Phyrra & Jen at My Beauty Bunny. There seems to be conflicting information now that Milani is getting some heat on social media (see updates on Logical Harmony and My Beauty Bunny), with them not addressing in their updated FAQ the original content of the email.  I will be putting these brands on my no buy list until things become definite.

I have had the Luminoso Blush in my drawer for three months to try and if things remain as they are currently it will be my only Milani purchase.

I am so grateful for blogs like Logical Harmony, who routinely re-check with companies to see if their status has changed.  If you are not following her, Phyrra or Jen, you need to go check them out!

I am really bummed.

Beauty Battle: Drugstore Cream Eye Shadow (Cruelty Free)

I’m going to let you in on a little secret.  The hotter it gets, the lazier I get with my makeup.

Which is why I used to LOVE the Maybelline Color Tattoos.  They were quick and easy and I could slap some on my eyelid and while I may not look like super amazing, I felt pulled together and let’s be real…how much eyeshadow does going to the grocery store and the park require (all while herding a 4 year old)?  For me and my increasing heat induced laziness, the answer is not much at all!

I have been on a mission to find a cruelty free replacement for the Color Tattoos.

Here are the shadows I have tried:

Hard Candy Cream Eyeshadows in Quicksand and Fancy Pants

Hard Candy All Lid Up in Quick Sand & Fancy Pants (5.00 at Walmart)

Wild Geranium Creme Eyeshadow by Flower Beauty

Wild Geranium Color Play Creme Eyeshadow by Flower Beauty (7.98 at Walmart)

Ulta Cream Shadow in Bronzed

Ulta Color Coat Cream Eye in Bronzed (on sale now for 4.00!)

Here are some swatches:

(no primer is used under swatches as I don’t use primer when wearing these on my eyes)

Swatches with Flash: (L to R) Wild Geranium, Quick Sand, Fancy Pants and Bronzed

No Flash (Top to Bottom): Bronzed, Fancy Pants, Quick Sand, Wild Geranium

No Flash (Top to Bottom): Bronzed, Fancy Pants, Quick Sand, Wild Geranium

My favorite is still Flower Beauty’s Wild Geranium.  I love the color and the texture.  It is more of a whipped texture than the Color Tattoos and you need to be careful applying until you get accustomed to the product.

My runner up is Ulta’s Color Coat in Bronzed.  This stuff is super pigmented and a teeny tiny bit goes a LONG way, so I will have this forever.  I had to sheer this out quite a bit with my fingers because Bronzed is very dark.  I will probably  go back and get a few more shades while the sale continues.

I did not care for the Hard Candy shadows at all.  I found the texture to be very dry and it was difficult to work with the product (keep in mind my laziness, you may not have the same issue).  The Color Payoff for Fancy Pants in particular was terrible.  It basically blended into my eye and just looked like random pieces of glitter on my lid.  I will give Fancy Pants to my niece for play makeup and I will throw Quick Sand into my gym bag for emergency makeup situations, but I will not repurchase.

Do you have a favorite Cream Shadow?  Have you tried any of these products?  Let me know in the comment section below!

I didn't have time to use concealer this morning, so please excuse the bags and dark circles under my eyes.

Please disregard my hair.  It is a rainy day here in Florida and sometimes when you have naturally curly hair all you can do is pull it back in a head band and get on with your day! 🙂
